Ranking Disney World After Hours Parties from Worst to Best (Halloween & Christmas)

DISNEY WORLD AFTER HOURS

If you’re planning a Disney trip from August through December, you are probably visiting at the time of the infamous seasonal Disney World After Hours.

Perhaps you’ve stared at the party calendar and thought, okay, which one is actually worth the extra ticket?

These nights aren’t cheap, and picking the wrong one can feel like paying premium prices and getting little value from it.

Sadly, these nights aren’t designed equal; some parties are certainly better than others.

But if you know this ahead of time, you can decide which parties are worth your time and money – and which are highly skippable!

Important side note: in this post, I’m discussing the seasonal ticketed parties, not the regular Disney After Hours events that pop up at Magic Kingdom, Epcot or Animal Kingdom during other times of year.

I’m also not ranking Extended Evening Hours for Deluxe Resort guests. But if you’re interested in this (and how to qualify for extra evening hours on a budget), check out my previous post discussing all you need to know!

I’m ranking these three seasonal parties from worst to best, based on what you actually get for your money:

  • Disney Jollywood Nights
  • Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
  • Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.

This post is all about ranking the 3 main seasonal Disney World After Hours parties.

How this ranking works (so you can pick the right party for your trip)

So how can you judge what’s “worth it”?

I’m basically asking one question: Does this feel like an incredible once-a-year celebration, or does it feel like you paid extra to do any old park night with a few cookies or snacks thrown in?

The four things that greatly impact your Disney World After Hours party: entertainment, snacks, characters, and ride wait times

  • Entertainment: Exclusive shows, parades, dance parties, and fireworks matter because they’re the stuff you can’t replicate on a normal day. This exclusive entertainment is usually the biggest difference between special and skippable.
  • Snacks and included treats: Included cookies, cocoa, candy etc. can be a real perk. Still, snacks should feel like a bonus, not the main reason you’re there. After all, you’re paying a lot for the “free” snacks/drinks.
  • Characters: This is about access and exclusivity. Party-only meets with rare characters and special outfits(holiday looks, Halloween costumes) are what people remember. A party that hides characters behind long lines loses points fast.
  • Ride time (and how low waits actually get): Lower waits are a huge part of the pitch. The best parties usually let you hit headliners with lower waits, especially late night when popular shows/parades are on.

Price and value basics (and why the cheapest ticket is not always the best deal)

Party tickets use date-based pricing, so the same event can cost less on a random weeknight and during a peak holiday week.

Also, these parties can and do sell out (particularly the parties hosted at Magic Kingdom). If you have your heart set on attending a particular party, try to get tickets as soon as you can.

Who each party fits best: little kids, teens, adults, and ride-focused groups

Not every party is right for everyone.

Use this as quick “if this sounds like you” guidance:

  • Families with younger kids (and sentimental families): Pick the party that’s strongest on parade shows, treats, music and  character meets. Just be aware that seasonal parties typically mean late nights (with parties often taking place until around midnight (or a little later).
  • Adults (especially first-timers or couples): Go for the event with the best atmosphere, seasonal entertainment, and exclusive extras.
  • Ride-focused groups: Choose the party with plenty of rides that you are interested in. You should have an opportunity to get on every ride you want, if you are less focused on seeing every seasonal show.

#3 – Worst: Disney Jollywood Nights, fun and stylish, but the most niche pick

It’s flashy, it’s fun, and it can be a great night if you want Hollywood Studios.

disney world after hours events 2026

But is it blowing any other seasonal party out of the water? Absolutely not!

Compared to the Magic Kingdom parties, it’s easier to leave thinking, “Wait, is that it?”

Sure, tickets are generally priced a little lower than Magic Kingdom’s parties (but you’re still paying a lot, and after attending this party a couple of times, I think it’s very expensive for what it is!).

Disney Jollywood Nights began in 2023, and have returned in every festive season since!

In 2025, Disney Jollywood Nights took place on select nights from 8th November to 22nd December.

What you get at Jollywood Nights?

Jollywood Nights happens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and it’s built around that “Tinseltown at Christmas” look.

Ticket holders typically get early entry around 5:30 p.m., then the party runs about 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. So it’s on the later side one, even by seasonal party standards.

Here’s what you can expect at Disney Jollywood Nights:

  • As soon as you step into “Jollywood”, a DJ on Hollywood Boulevard sets the mood with fun holiday-appropriate music.
  • You can also catch Disney Holidays in Hollywood, a musical variety show at Theater of the Stars. Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy star in this show, along with beloved Disney Princesses like Belle and Tiana.
  • Also coming back is Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing-Along. This fan-favorite will be performed five times each party night. (Side note: this is more focused on watching parts of the movie with iconic songs, and less about the performers).
  • If you want something unique, you can head to Hollywood Boulevard for Glisten!. This show features international champion skaters performing to holiday songs and Disney favorites.
  • Still want more music? Then make your way to the Hyperion Theater for a festive sing-along experience.
  • You can also watch the return of Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!, the nighttime spectacular at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. It mixes projections, music, and special effects. And after seeing this a couple times, I find that it’s pretty underwhelming for being a party-exclusive nighttime show. The storyline feels lacking for Disney and is pretty forgettable – particularly in comparison to the nighttime shows at Disney’s other seasonal parties (more on this later in the post!).

Disney World After Hours 2026

  • There are also rare character meet-and-greets, shorter waits for attractions, and a few more extras that make the party stand out.
  • You also get a treat included in the price of your ticket:
  1. In 2023, it was drinks coasters (very random, not the most exciting, but at least they’re useful)
  2. In 2024, it was champagne-flavored marshmallows (perhaps they were cost-cutting this year
  3. In 2025, it was an ornament. After plenty of criticism, Disney actually listened!

Important Things/Best parts of Disney Jollywood Nights:

  • Generally cheaper than Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom.
  • Adult-friendly Disney party (all parties welcome adults and kids, but there’s plenty of events more geared to adults than normal at a Disney party).

disney world after hours tickets

  • Can be a great time to experience popular Hollywood Studios rides with shorter wait times.
  • Lots of exclusive festive snacks you can purchase at the party.
  • You may even see snow!

Where it falls short: fewer “only at Disney” moments compared to the Magic Kingdom parties

  • There is no Christmas parade
  • There is generally no food included in the cost of your ticket (though there may be select treats at SOME parties for DVC members who qualify for Membership Extras – at no extra cost)
  • It’s not the best Disney World Christmas party for families with younger kids
  • You can’t enter the park before 5.30 PM (unless you have valid Hollywood Studios tickets on the day of your party). This is later than the earliest entry time for parties at Magic Kingdom.
  • They don’t usually have “re-themed” or “altered” rides exclusive to Disney Jollywood Nights.

Middle but NOT MEDIOCRE: Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, the most unique night for August through October trips

There may only be one Halloween Party at Disney World. But this one is so incredible that you really don’t need another option!

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is the night you can go to Magic Kingdom and put on a costume (or a spooky shirt) and celebrate the (extended) spooky season!

disney world after hours events

Guests can generally enter Magic Kingdom Park from 4 PM. The party officially lasts for 5 hours – from 7 PM to midnight.

In 2025, these Halloween parties took place on select nights from August 15th to October 31st, and tickets cost approximately $119-$229 + tax.

What do you get at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party?

  • The biggest “you can’t do this on a normal Disney park visit” if you are age 14+ is that you can wear costumes. But first, remember to check Disney’s costume rules to avoid issues during the party!
  • Then there’s the candy – included with the price of your ticket. Trick-or-treat trails run throughout the park, and you can get unlimited candy in your “complimentary” trick-or-treating bag.
  • The party entertainment is the reason people plan their whole night around.
  • Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade is the headliner. With catchy music and iconic characters in their costumes, it’s incredible and usually takes place twice during the party.

  • The other can’t-miss for a lot of guests is the castle stage show, Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular. It’s loud, silly, and villain-heavy – perfect for Halloween.
  • The fireworks – Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular – have everything you could possibly want:
  1. A well-told Halloween storyline
  2. Incredible castle projections
  3. Impressive fireworks!

Disney World After Hours 2026 dates

  • Want more characters? This is your chance to meet your favorite characters – many of them in their seasonal-appropriate costumes! Just be aware that wait times can get VERY high – rivalling or overtaking a lot of the Magic Kingdom ride wait times.
  • MNSSHP is also a big deal for party-exclusive characters and rare meets, and that’s where time can disappear fast. Wait times for character meet-and-greets can be scarily high!

Best parts of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party:

  • Candy is included with park ticket!
  • Stand out parade and fireworks
  • Starts over two months before Halloween (so you can celebrate Fall during your summer vacation!)
  • Fun for all ages (I went last year with my family – all adults – and we had the best time!).

  • Good time to check off popular rides, which tend to have lower-than-usual wait times.
  • They have party-exclusive overlays on some of their rides (i.e. Mad Tea Party with “spooky” lighting and music or Space Mountain completely in the dark!

The major downsides of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party:

  • Ticket prices swing a lot by date, and in 2025 they ran roughly $119 to $229 (plus tax). Regardless of when you visit, it is NOT cheap!
  • Like every seasonal party, it finishes late, so it can be exhausting for younger kids (and everyone, regardless of age!).
  • Disney doesn’t change the Halloween party much year to year, so there aren’t many surprises. Maybe the paid snack options change a little, but nothing major. (Though this could also be a pro – if it’s not broke, don’t fix it?
  • If you’re looking for an actually scary Halloween party, you’d be better off going to Universal Halloween Horror Nights.

Best Seasonal Party: Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the most classic holiday win at Disney World

This is the top pick because it feels like a true holiday event, not just a late park night with some decent add-ons.

disney world after hours dates

It is the OG Disney World Christmas Party and it really can’t be beat!

Sadly, great things at Disney World often aren’t low-priced.

Similarly to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, you can enter Magic Kingdom from 4 PM, and the Christmas party takes place between 7 PM and midnight.

In 2025, tickets for this epic Christmas party tickets cost between $169 and $229 + tax.

Parties took place on select dates between November 7th and December 21st.

What makes it feel like Christmas in a way the other parties cannot match

  • The star of the show is Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade. It combines classic Disney characters, festive favorites (toy soldiers and even Santa!), and incredible music and floats.

disney world after dark

  • Looking for Christmassy fireworks? Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks combines iconic Christmas music with gorgeous fireworks which fill the sky.
  • Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration is a fun castle stage show with great music and plenty of characters!
  • There may be other shows available during your visit – such as Frozen Holiday Surprise at the castle stage.
  • You can meet characters in their holiday outfits. Like with every party, the wait times can get long to meet characters. But you can get some VERY cute festive photos!
  • You get some awesome included treats. It’s similar to trick-or-treating at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. But instead of candy: you can get cookies, hot cocoa, eggnog and apple cider at various locations around Magic Kingdom.
  • Each year, you are usually provided with an ornament, included in the price of your ticket.
  • Like any party, it can be a great opportunity to get on more rides than usual, with lower wait times.

The biggest pros of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

  • You get unlimited cookies AND drinks included in the price

disney world after hours calendar

  • There really is something for all ages!
  • You may get to see snowfall on Main Street!
  • There is plenty of top-tier festive entertainment!
  • You get to appreciate the beauty of Magic Kingdom at Christmas with reduced crowds.
  • You can also find party-exclusive overlays on some rides (i.e. Space Mountain with Christmas decor!

The biggest downsides of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

  • The parade is not exclusive to party. It is usually on throughout regular park days towards the end of December (this is good because you may not need a party ticket to see it. But it’s a shame if you’ve spent hundreds to see it, when plenty of people get to see it included with their regular Magic Kingdom Park ticket).
  • The park looks incredible – but you can appreciate the gorgeous decorations during the day – or on non-party nights.
  • It usually doesn’t change much year to year. Unless you LOVE it, you probably don’t absolutely need to attend on an annual basis.

Frequently Asked Questions Related to Disney World After Hours Seasonal Parties

Which party is best if we care most about rides and low waits?

In general, you’ll get the most ride value from the events that put you in a ride-heavy park. Magic Kingdom-based seasonal After Hours events often look great on paper for this reason, because there’s so much to ride.

But then again, if you’re more interested in the rides at Hollywood Studios, Disney Jollywood Nights may be a better choice for you.

Which party is best for entertainment and characters?

Holiday-themed parties usually have the edge here, because the whole point is exclusive shows, characters, music, and seasonal touches you can’t get on a normal day.

If you’re visiting August-October, your only option for a seasonal After Hours event is Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (but boy, is it a good option for entertainment!).

Choosing between Christmas parties? I would always advise going for Magic Kingdom’s as they have more elaborate entertainment offerings and hello, “complimentary” cookies and select festive drinks!

Is an After Hours party worth it if we already have a regular park day planned?

Sometimes, yes, but it depends on your goal. If you want cooler temps (though some evenings at Christmas parties can be very cold!), shorter waits, a party night can great. It can also be a smart pick if you’d rather pay for a tighter, more focused night than have to deal with daytime crowds.

On the other hand, if you’re already paying for a full park day and you’re not staying out late, an After Hours ticket can turn into “expensive exhaustion” fast. In a ranking, this is where value comes in, because the best parties feel like a different experience, not just a longer one.

Do you need a separate ticket for Disney World holiday parties?

You do. These parties are separate-ticketed events, so you need a party ticket even if you already bought a regular park ticket for that day. If you’re visiting Magic Kingdom on a party date, keep in mind that day guests without a party ticket have to leave before the event starts, which can make daytime hours more condensed.

What do you get at a seasonal Disney World party that you won’t get during regular park hours?

The biggest draw is the exclusive entertainment. Whether that’s Halloween parades or Christmas nighttime spectaculars, the majority of the entertainment is not available on regular park days (excluding the Once Upon a Christmas Parade, which usually takes place during regular park hours later in December).

Are crowds lower during Disney World Halloween and Christmas parties?

They can be lower than a normal packed park day, but they’re not EMPTY.

Ride wait times are often more manageable, especially later at night, yet the party-exclusive entertainment can draw heavy crowds.

In other words, you might walk onto some rides and still need to stake out a parade or fireworks spot 20-30 minutes + in advance.

Final Thoughts on Disney World After Hours Seasonal Parties

Although there is NO bad Disney World After Hours seasonal party, they are NOT created equal.

Before tickets go on sale, consider your party priorities and then you can choose which is the best party to visit based on your priority list.
