Looking for the best Disney Resort Christmas decorations to check out in 2025 (and the worst ones you shouldn’t waste your time on)?

This post will break down the 7 best and 7 worst displays across Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
In 2024, I visited both Disney World and Disneyland at Christmas and was amazed and disappointed by different Disney Resort Christmas decorations.
Iâll call out those resorts that truly understand what holiday spirit meansâand point out the ones that just barely check the box.
This post is all about the best and worst Disney Resort Christmas decorations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
Disney Resort Christmas Decorations
What Makes Disney Resort Christmas Decorations Stand Out?
If youâve ever strolled into a Disney resort during the holidays, you know it doesnât feel like regular, non-Disney hotel decor.
Thereâs something about many Disney resort Christmas decorations that just feel unparalleled. Some resorts feel like youâve walked straight onto a movie set while others look like they’ve barely tried.
Theming That Makes Sense for the Individual Resort
Disney nails the âwowâ factor when dĂŠcor fits the resortâs story. Iâm not talking about just slapping Mickey ornaments on a tree.
At their best, Disneyâs holiday teams look at the entire resortâits theme, history, and even geography.
For example, at the Grand Floridian you used to see a massive gingerbread house that feels straight out of a Victorian Christmas card, sitting perfectly in the elegant lobby (more on this later in the post).

What separates the best from the worst?
- DĂŠcor feels like a natural extension of the resort, not an afterthought.
- Ornaments and displays reflect the culture, era, or location the hotel is inspired by.
- No clashing styles or decor
Immersive Experience: Total Holiday Takeover
Holiday atmosphere at Disney resorts ideally shouldn’t just be limited to the lobby
How does Disney pull off this total holiday takeover?
- Signature scents, like cinnamon and cookies in the bakery or lobby.
- Christmas soundtracks that match the decor and the vibe.
- Hidden character nods tucked into displays for eagle-eyed fans.
- Limited-edition snacks and drinks tied to the resort or decorations.
Staying at these resorts is like getting an extra ticket to a holiday paradeâexcept you can enjoy it in your pajamas.
Ranking the Festive Disney Resort Winners and Losers
How do I size up the best and worst Disney resort Christmas decorations? Here is the criteria:
- Does the dĂŠcor actually fit the resortâs theme?
- Are the decorations over the top or just alright?
- Do details reward a closer look (hidden characters, unique ornaments)?
- How do crowds move around the displaysâdo the decorations encourage visitors because they’re just that good?
- Can you experience something specialâlike a treat, show etc.âjust for the holidays?
- Is there an actual sense of âholiday magic?â Hard to define, but easy to feel.
7 Best Disney Resort Christmas Decorations at Walt Disney World and Disneyland
1) Disney’s Wilderness Lodge â A Classic Christmas Wonderland – Walt Disney World Resort
Nothing screams âChristmas in the woodsâ quite like Disneyâs Wilderness Lodge during the holidays.
The moment you walk in, youâre greeted by the scent of pine and a jaw-dropping Christmas tree that stretches as high as the lobbyâs log-built beams.
This tree isnât just big, itâs loaded with ornaments that blend perfectly with the resortâs rustic vibe.

Picture this: roaring fireplaces, cozy corners with rocking chairs, and garlands decked with pinecones.
The ambiance here sets the gold standard for Disney resort Christmas decorations.
If you crave a lobby that feels like a scene from a classic Christmas movie, Wilderness Lodge is it.
Grab a cocoa or Christmassy treat, sit by the fire, and just take it all in.
I stayed here in late November 2024, and one morning, we got up and went to the lobby before 6AM. If you get the opportunity, I HIGHLY recommend visiting the lobby super early before the crowds arrive. It’s just so magical.
Also, the lobby at Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge gets more modest – but extremely charming – decorations.

2) Disneyâs Animal Kingdom Lodge – A Unique Twist on Holiday Celebrations – Walt Disney World Resort
If youâre looking for something totally different, Animal Kingdom Lodge brings holiday style inspired by African art and nature.
The centerpiece is a massive tree in the Jambo House lobby, decorated with resort-appropriate ornaments.
The best part? The animals added to the main lobby at Jambo House are made from GINGERBREAD!
You can also find great (but less dramatic) decorations in the lobby at Kidani Village.

3) Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa – Disneyland’s Equivalent to Wilderness Lodge & the Grand Floridian During the Holidays – Disneyland Resort
Thereâs something about Christmas on the West Coast, and the Grand Californian delivers a knockout holiday atmosphere.
Right when you step into the Craftsman-style lobby, youâre met with a giant tree lit with gorgeous lights.
But the real star is the life-sized gingerbread house that greets you at the entrance, made by Disney pastry chefs and full of Disney details – reminiscent of the one that has been at Grand Floridian for years.
You can also purchase Christmassy sweet treats here, which is always an added bonus!
4) Disney’s Beach Club â Gingerbread Carousel & Unexpected Coastal Christmas Charm
Beach Club feels like a spring/summer resort, but it’s surprisingly awesome at Christmas.
The standout here is the rotating, life-size gingerbread carouselâa fully edible, working carousel adorned with Disney characters that smells as good as it looks. Each year, it has a different theme.
Although it doesn’t give the coziest, festive vibes, the Beach Club is surprisingly incredible at this time of year.
5) Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort – Spanish-Inspired Christmas Decor & Vibes
If youâve ever doubted that âcontemporaryâ and âChristmasâ can mix, you havenât seen Coronado Springs during December.
This resort is all about merging Spanish, Mexican, and Southwest themesâso when the holidays roll around, expect bold colors, lantern-lit trees, and a towering Christmas tree in the center of Gran Destino Tower.
Even the tower glows different classic red and green Christmassy colors!
Also, I’ve been fortunate to stay here during the holidays in 2022 and 2023 – and one underrated thing I really love is the Christmas songs with Spanish lyrics (even if my Spanish doesn’t extend much past ‘hola’)!

6) Disney’s All-Star Resorts – Music, Movies & Sports Meet Christmas!
Not every value resort brings its A-game at Christmas (more on that later …), but All-Star Music, Movies, and Sports have a way of feeling fun and full of spirit this time of year.
Each has its own themed tree in the main lobbyâthink instruments, film reels, and sports gear that perfectly fit their themes.
Decorations might not be as fancy or extensive as many deluxe resorts, but theyâre colorful and cheery.
You’ll also see wreaths that coordinate with the Christmas tree decorations.
7) Disney’s BoardWalk Inn â Vintage Holiday Vibes
BoardWalk Inn is where nostalgia meets Christmas in all the right ways.
The lobby doesn’t have one tree – but several smaller ones that seem to take over this space!
But don’t worry; you’ll still find a massive tree here – just outside!
They also have their own teeny gingerbread display each year (note: this one is not life-sized, but it is so cute!).
7 Worst Disney Resort Christmas Decorations: Hits That Miss the Holiday Mark
Sadly, not every Disney resort can land on the âniceâ list when it comes to Christmas decorations.
Even though Disney is famous for going above and beyond, there are a handful of hotels at Disneyland and Walt Disney World where the holiday spirit is either barely noticeable or underwhelming.
1) Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort â Victorian Sophistication & Lost Gingerbread Magic
Okay, I know this is extremely controversial!
Prior to 2025, this would undoubtedly be in the top 7 on this list.
After all, the Grand Floridian is famous for its towering Victorian Christmas tree and life-size gingerbread house. And it really is as good as it sounds.
Well, was. Disney has confirmed that the gingerbread house will not be returning this year, due to construction in the main lobby.
So, in 2025, prepare to be underwhelmed by the Grand Floridian, losing its festive icon!
As a new birdcage-inspired bar is opening in the lobby (date TBC), it is possible that the Grand Floridian won’t have a gingerbread house in the lobby – due to a lack of space.
If that happens, Grand Floridian will permanently lose its title as 1st or 2nd best Disney World resort at Christmas!
2) Disneylandâs Pixar Pier Hotel â Justifiably Overlooked & Underwhelming
Walk into Pixar Pier Hotel around Christmas, and prepare to be disappointed.
Decorations here are a little sparse, and what is available seems lacklustre and cheap (not what you’d expect for a Deluxe hotel at Disneyland).

Sure. it’s a much cheaper hotel than the Grand Californian (for example) but there’s no excuse for the lack of effort. After all, even some of the most affordable Disney World hotels have been able to decorate impressively!
3) Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort â Subdued Tropical Vibes
The Polynesian Village Resort brings fresh, breezy island style the rest of the year, but during the holidays, it struggles to combine its tropical vibe with classic Christmas spirit.
Decorations here are subtleâthink a few garlands with muted tropical flowers, basic wreaths, and hints of pineâbut thereâs nothing that really pops.
Even the tree seems somewhat small – compared to the ones you’ll find at the Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge and Coronado Springs, for example.
To be honest, the Polynesian is much better in spring/summer than winter.
4) Disney’s Riviera Resort – Still a Beautiful Hotel But SO Subtle on the Christmas Decor
Riviera Resort just feels small when it comes to holiday decor.
The hotel itself is all about European inspiration, clean lines, and understated class.
During Christmas, youâll see a small tree in the lobby, some tasteful wreaths and garlands, and not much more.
Itâs meant to feel âelegant,â but it ends up feeling a tiny bit sterile.
That said, I stayed here in December 2024, and thoroughly enjoyed my stay regardless. But if you’re looking for a resort that shouts “CHRISTMAS”, Riviera just isn’t it.

5) Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort – Colourful as Always But Not Festive
Right by Riviera is Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort – where the Christmas decor doesn’t improve.
Caribbean Beach is usually bursting with color, but come Christmas, the lobby seems to slide into the background.
Sure, there are garlands strung along the railings and a few themed touches, but most of it feels genericââholidayâ.
Similar to the Polynesian Village Resort, this is a great resort at other times of year (like spring/summer), but isn’t great at feeling festive.

6) Disney’s Old Key West Resort – Nothing Interesting at This DVC Resort
Old Key Westâs holiday decor is, in a word, quiet.
This laid-back spot is known for its breezy, residential vibe, but the Christmas setup follows suitâalmost too closely.
Youâll see some wreaths, a few ornaments, and not much else. Thereâs nothing to draw people to the lobby for photos or get kids – or adults – excited.
(Also, as a DVC member who has an Old Key West contract, couldn’t my overpriced dues go towards some better Christmas decor?! đ).

7) Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
Art of Animation celebrates animation history with bold, over-the-top theming every single day.
The decorations here are limited. They do have a decent sized Christmas tree – but it’s usually a white tree.
Whilst this does it make it stand out against most other Christmas trees at the Disney hotels, I feel it makes it look too modern and almost sterile.
Anyone else think classic green Disney Christmas trees are always best?

Tips for Experiencing the Best of Disney Resort Christmas Decorations
Thereâs an art to enjoying Disney resort Christmas decorations without feeling rushed, overwhelmed, or frazzled by crowds. Getting it right means youâll actually soak in the atmosphere, spot the best hidden details, and leave with those picture-perfect holiday memories. Over the years, Iâve picked up favorite strategies for planning a holiday decor tour that feels magical and low-stressâeven if youâre resort hopping or just squeezing in a quick visit.
Plan a âSelf-Guided Resort Tourâ Like a Pro
Designing your own Disney Christmas decoration tour is the ultimate flex for fans who crave variety. Donât just wing itâif you want to hit the best displays, a little map and schedule go a long way. I like to group resorts by proximity (either on the monorail loop, BoardWalk area, or connected by Skyliner) so I can hop from lobby to lobby without doubling back.
Hereâs my tried-and-true approach:
- Map your route. Start with a few resorts close togetherâthink Grand Floridian, Polynesian, and Contemporary or all the Skyliner resorts.
- Use Disney transportation. The Skyliner, Monorail, boats resort buses make it easy to jump from one vibe to another.
- Look at the Snacks. A number of resorts have Christmassy snacks. If you stay at or visit a hotel with a Christmas snack stall, consider checking it out!

Beat the Crowds: Timing is Everything
If youâve ever tried snapping a tree selfie only to get photobombed by a family of 12, you know what I mean. The key to enjoying Disney resort Christmas decorations is hitting the sweet spots for crowd levels. Hereâs what works for me:
- Arrive early. The first few hours after lobby opening are gold. Decorations are fully lit, music is soft, and youâll share the space with a handful of other early birds.
- Go on a weekday. Weekends see local traffic, so if youâre flexible, midweek gives you more breathing space.
The Best Time of Year: When to Catch All the Decor – The Approximate Disneyland and Disney World Christmas Decorations Dates in 2025
Want to know the sweet spot for seeing the full lineup of Disney resort Christmas decorations? Timing your visit makes all the difference. Most resorts go full holiday by early November, but if you visit right after Thanksgiving and before the late December rush, decorations are finished, but crowds havenât hit capacity. Early January can be quiet, but you might miss a few major displays that start coming down.
Key points to remember:
- Set-up begins in early November – Resorts usually finish by the second/third week of November.
- Decor comes down after New Yearâs. By the first or second week of January, holiday displays start disappearing.

Frequently Asked Questions about Disney Resort Christmas Decorations at Disneyland & Disney World
What is the best way to stay at on-site Disney World resorts during the holidays on a budget?
Need to book a stay at Disney World during the holidays? After experiencing many ways of booking on-site stays, I would suggest rent Disney Vacation Club points through an established company – my go-to is David’s Vacation Club Rentals for an easy process.
You get access to deluxe DVC resorts and Christmas decor at prices closer to moderate (and sometimes, even value) hotels.
Their site also lists confirmed reservations, which can be at a discount if your dates are flexible, or you’re booking last-minute.
During the holiday season, cash rates at places like the Grand Floridian or BoardWalk can be brutal, but renting points cut that cost by a lot.
If you like planning ahead and do not mind skipping daily housekeeping in exchange for usually much lower rates, renting points makes more premium Disney holiday stays much more appealing.
